In my previous post, First Footing, I shared with you the arrival of my first mail of the year, all the way from Berlin. The mail package was my prize from Beautycalypse’s first international ethical giveaway.
I took my time opening the parcel because a) it’s not every day I win a prize and b) it’s not every day I receive a parcel from anywhere, let alone Berlin. These special events need to be savoured and made to last as long as possible. However, the mail was eventually opened and here is what I found. Would you like to have a peek ?……..

when i am traveling or in town, there’s no problem. but after four months with zero internet options in the country, i’m very happy to have slow internet in my home, even if i have to wait to read posts..

I must say, I have only just discovered the powdered cacao and it’s the finest taste I’ve ever had. it’s rich, and sweet, and velvety, and fruity, indescribably good. baking with it. NOM!

I try, but am not 100% successful. Old habits die hard.
I know what you mean, but it’s only a matter of repeating 🙂 once you recognise the lightness of going sans old habits, you’ll look for more of them to ditch.
Now, you have just reminded me that I had forgotten my new light habit of a few pieces of Blyss chocolate each day!

I have been waiting all day to read this post. Arrived in Calgary with minus 25 below weather! Set up my iPad as soon as I reached the hotel and now I found that you have already eaten the chocolate. Which is exactly what you should have done. Chocolate is top priority!!! Ahh… it must have been absolutely divine.

I am finding the cold refreshing. I am revitalized. Eastern Canada is completely under cold. People are stranded and flights cancelled, a reminder that the weather is an uncontrolled force. Having lots of hot tea….

What a lovely prize to get and yes there is something very exciting about a parcel from afar. Gosh, just read your reply to the comment above this one about the chocolate being the best you have ever tasted, that sounds so special.
The trouble is that now I have tasted this gorgeous chocolate my ordinary daily chocolate, which is one of the better ordinaries, just tastes blah! Dare I check and see how much BLYSS costs? 🙂

Congratulations, I can feel your elation and joy. I’m a Chocoholic, and just know the “bliss” you’ve experienced. There is chocolate and there is chocolate. I only eat dark, and can see the deep color of the BYLSS. Your slow dive into the prize probably gave its presence even more value.
I usually restrict myself to dark chocolate too but this is a whole new level of dark chocolate for my taste buds. Seems ridiculous to be so excited about chocolate but as my taste buds age, it seems harder and harder to find food that really sets them tingling. So when it happens, I feel happy for days. A perfect cherry or apricot or apple will do the same for me. Of course, it may not be entirely a taste bud problem, but a quality of food problem also 😉
Fantastic prizes and the very nice introducing (the unwrapping process) them. The Quest sounds nice and trying few beans of Blyss chocolate seems divine. My quest for now is to get a piece of chocolate around for now 🙂

How wonderful, I do love this that who needs logic if we have chocolate, totally me that is! Chocolate does get me everywhere…. Those crafted sets are beautiful. My dad had a manicure set like that and it was always so handy, just with the necessities in. Great gifts for a new year!

It is in his desk, but I haven’t had the heart to take it yet, I was allowed to use it often when a nail broke… hmmm memories, simple but nice!
A lovely memory to have …and, perhaps, the manicure set needs to stay in the desk for a while yet. Those memories of your father are precious and having the desk and the manicure set in place will help you process them and store them.

Thank you for saying so 🙂 I am always in total disbelief when I win anything; it happens so rarely! Funnily enough, considering my reference to ballet in First Footing, the last prize I won, maybe 5 or 6 years ago was to a performance of the NZ Royal Ballet.

Yes, and whatever it was, I have a memory of enjoyment. It was good ballet, that much I remember 🙂 Last year, a friend won a ticket to Dicken’s Women by Miriam Margoyles and she didn’t want the ticket so she gave it to me; that was almost as good as winning the ticket myself.
Oh how marvellous. We saw MM perform that show here in Edinburgh – wasn’t she just wonderful? My favourite bit was when she played both Mr Bumble & Widow Corney from Oliver Twist at the same time – so talented.
She was brilliant and so versatile. I don’t know which parts were my favourite because I was simply amazed by her energy and skill and charisma throughout.
I agree. At our show, there were two instances of people in the audience feinting/falling ill and therefore interrupting her. She held things together without batting an eyelid, going in and out of character as necessary, and offering compassion for those affected, not at all cross by what was happening.
That’s truly astonishing. No such dramas at the performance I went to.
Just as well, I think, for MM’s sake! 🙂
And her performance here was a fundraiser too which shows her generosity.
Special Fundraising Shows Bring in $500,000 for the Isaac Theatre Royal
More than $500,000 has been raised for the restoration of Christchurch’s Isaac Theatre Royal through three special theatre fundraisers in the past two months enabling repair work to finally begin on the 104-year-old Heritage theatre.
The Hobbit star Sir Ian McKellen performed 15 shows in 11 centres throughout New Zealand in May and June, raising $354,000 from ticket sales, programme sales and donations in exchange for photographs and autographs. Earlier in May, British actor Miriam Margolyes performed a fundraiser in Christchurch raising $10,000, while last week’s Christchurch performance by the Flight of the Conchords and a recent personal donation from actor and writer Richard O’Brien has brought the total raised to well over $500,000. He said he was astounded by the generosity, the funds raised mean that work can start on Monday on the iconic dome of the theatre.” The Theatre was ruined in the earthquakes.
That is truly inspirational, isn’t it. How wonderful to think that people are prepared to help in this way.
